World Hepatitis Alliance – NOHEP
Today, over 350 million people live with viral hepatitis. Every 30 seconds, someone loses their life to a hepatitis related illness.
The World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) was established in 2007 to harness the power of the people and communities affected by viral hepatitis and demand change. Clarion I’s director helped establish WHA and was part of its history for over 12 years. She became WHA’s CEO (2014-2018) and was one of the pioneers of The World Hepatitis Summit and of NOHEP, the global movement to eliminate viral hepatitis.
WHA took a leading role in coordinating global awareness campaigns and advocating on behalf of patients worldwide. It put hepatitis on the global health agenda and now the diseases feature in the Sustainable Development Goals, with a clear elimination goal by 2030.
After standing down, she continued to support the organisation (under Clarion I), as it transitioned to a new leadership phase. This included mentorship to the new CEO, continued dialogue with WHA’s board, sharing of cultural norms, and co-creation of organisational strategy (incl. plans around partnerships and programmes such as NOHEP).
