Leadership
Raquel Peck is a champion for change. Since founding Clarion I, she’s been supporting transformative initiatives, amongst which the work with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on effective community engagement to tackle COVID-19. Previous to that, Raquel spent over 15 years advocating on behalf of people living with viral hepatitis. She helped establish – and eventually became the CEO of – the World Hepatitis Alliance, an international organisation composed of 300+ groups in over 90 countries.
Raquel’s work in that field was integral to the adoption of three WHO resolutions – one of which she drafted on behalf of the government of Brazil – and now viral hepatitis features in the Sustainable Development Goals’ agenda, with a clear goal of elimination by 2030.
Raquel also started a global movement (NOhep) to unite and strengthen the viral hepatitis community and was recognised as a change-maker by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Being able to share with others what she learned was always important to her; for example, while still leading the World Hepatitis Alliance, Raquel coached the Global Sepsis Alliance on how to successfully advocate for a WHO resolution and celebrated with them when the Sepsis Resolution got ratified in 2017. She also sat in various advisory boards, including Medicines Patent Pool’s Expert Advisory Group.
